Legend of Lovers
Alyque Padamsee’s latest presentation, his 76th theatrical production, Legend of Lovers is an adaptation of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. A tale more than two millennia old, is one of the origional love stories found in literary pools. It puts falling in love in a completely unique context, with ‘Death’ coming to the rescue/ recourse of the lovers.
Padamsee’s daughter Shazahn Padamsee and Mikhail Sen essay the protagonist roles. The play also has the actors singing some, and is interlaced with special effects, done by Viraaf Pocha and Alyque Padamsee. They might also attempt some aerial stunts, but those are surprises we will have to hold our breath for.
A tale mentioned in many great works, including Metamorphoses by Ovid, and The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie; this is a true love story, where the Gods test the faith of the lovers. With all the elements of a spectacle, and the music and special effects, Padamsee’s version of this masterpiece looks promising!
