The Experience
The visit will begin with an introduction placing the story and development of the Museum within the wider history of the city.
It will include an exploration of the Museum building, which, conceptualised alongside a botanical garden in what was then the ‘garden suburb’ of the city, is a unique example of high Victorian design and lone historical remnant in a much changed neighbourhood.
In this interactive session, participants will be encouraged to read and decipher the highlight objects from the Museum’s permanent collection, comprised of maps, statues, models, dioramas and fine and decorative arts from the 19th century that illustrate the city’s history and heritage.
Participants will be introduced to the Museum’s intensive, five-year restoration project, which won the prestigious 2005 UNESCO Award of Excellence for Cultural Conservation.
